The Flip Side
We stand at one week out. Some of us are tapering while some are still contemplating ideas. Some have decided on their challenge and some are just getting their training going (I hate to mention names but Wilson I’d really hate to see you re-live your pain from last year).
One thing we have in common is that we are woefully short of our goal of $20,000. Primarily I own that for not getting in front of this endeavor earlier.
Unfortunately, the ones who will bear the brunt of the shortfall are the individuals and their families who need help during this pandemic. Almost every person reading this is comfortable. We’re likely saving money because we aren’t going on vacation or because interest rates are low or whatever.
The flip side is that the people who aren’t reading this blog are, in many cases, desperate. They aren’t deciding whether to order out tonight or buy something from Amazon. They are trying to figure out which bills they can pay this month – or if they’re lucky – they’re working a second job on a Saturday night. All the while a vital safety net we take for granted – schools – are limited in how they can safely deliver services. The outcome – distance learning – has placed a particularly large burden on families with children with special needs. This fund raiser is directly aimed at helping that situation.
If this isn’t a rainy day, I don’t know what one is!!!
Don’t take this the wrong way, but those reading this are blessed beyond belief. Not because you’ve chosen to read the rantings of an old man but because YOU are in a position to help.
2020 is a double down year (heck it’s the number itself is a double). I’ve made a personal commitment to double down on charitable giving. This group can largely afford to so as well. Please consider the challenge.
PS – this year has been so difficult for DSACO that earlier this year my daughter risked criminal repercussions to hold an on-line bingo night (she’s a two time loser). If for no other reason, please help so we can keep her out jail.
PSS – though I promised myself I would never do this again, if we obtain our $20,000 goal by noon Saturday 10/24 I will do 321 burpees in addition to the 3,210 pushups.
