Adaptation
A friend asked me yesterday how my burpee thing is going. She asked if I found they were getting easier. I told her I guess so but I still hate them.
It caused me to think about how we adapt and grow stronger. Most people infer adaptation is about the body growing stronger which is true in part. However, the real adaptation is mental. The body can do amazing things if the mind believes.
Long ago I read a study about runners running repeat intervals (e.g. - say four 400 meter repeats). The runners were supposed to run each 400 as fast as possible. In almost every case the last 400 was the fastest. This theory is the mind is holding the body back on numbers 1, 2 & 3 because it knows more runs are coming and it wants to keep something in reserve (i.e. - protect the body). If correct that means it is our brain holding back our body.
Just something to think about.
PS - Although I subscribe to the theory described above, as I get older I must admit that my mind can make promises that my body can't keep!
