Of Almost & Halfway II
I used to run a bit when I was younger and ran some track. Events like the mile and two mile (showing my age as everything has been metric for centuries).
Sometimes my friends (OK - they were random strangers but I liked to think they were friends) would yell encouragement as I was running around the track 4 to 8 times. They were trying to help but would invariably yell "you're halfway" after lap 2 or 4 respectively.
Now if you haven't run distances on a track you might not realize that usually the pace is pretty hard and at the "halfway" point there is a bit of pain/discomfort involved. The LAST thing I wanted to hear was that I was halfway! I needed to stay "in the moment" because the idea of running 4 more laps in pain was not something I wanted in my head.
I had a similar experience on a long swim last summer. Not good thoughts at the time.
All of this leads me to comment that although I stopped today at 50,000 burpees completed, I am keeping my head in the present.
