Big Day - Saturday 10/19/2019
A lot of people said I was crazy for doing 100,000 burpees last year but the truth is anyone can do it. All you need is a strong WHY, set your mind to a goal and then like Nike says “Just Do It.” I see the challenges my son faces every day as well as others with Down syndrome, and any problems I have seem easy by comparison. Raising money for the Down Syndrome Association of Central Ohio isn’t a burden or a challenge. It’s a joy. I thought about that during my 100,000 burpees last year and it made me happy and kept me motivated.
This year, though, I want others to experience that joy with me. (OK and maybe just a bit of sweat and pain too but not too much. Then again as I always say the pain is a reward in itself and you have to earn it.)
It’s been a while but I wanted to provide an update on our 2019 event. The theme is 3-2-1 and I’ll be doing:
3000 squats
2000 mountain climbers and
1000 pullups
All within 24 hours.
On Saturday, October 19, CrossFit Clintonville is opening its doors for a “3-2-1” fundraiser (three 21st chromosomes are the marker for Down syndrome) and I’m hoping you will join me. I’ve set three goals for myself: 1) enlist as many people as possible to the cause; 2) raise $20,000 for DSACO; and 3) convince my new hero and blog supporter Chaz Michael Michaels to attend the event. (The Chaz man defies description but for background please peruse my 2018 blog entries.)
Any combination of 3-2-1 is acceptable: pushups, pullups, sit-ups, squats, distance walked … it’s completely up to you. The point is that you get involved in some way and help spread awareness for this important cause.
How You Can Help
Stop by CrossFit Clintonville on Saturday, October 19 as an observer or a participant. I’m starting at about 8 a.m. and hope to be finished by … well it depends on how things go I guess but absolutely no earlier than 1 p.m.
If you want to officially join The Squad, email or call me with your goal and we’ll get you added to the website so you can be featured with the other members.
If can’t attend but want to donate, please go to www.jeffhatesburpees.com/donate.
A book I love is called “Extreme Ownership” by Jocko Willink. Jocko was a Navy SEAL and commander of the most decorated special ops unit in the Iraq War. He basically says that instead of blaming others and finding excuses you need to check your ego at the door and “just do it.” It’s a lesson about fitness and leadership and life too. So if you’re on the fence about whether to join me in support of DSACO just think about Jocko would tell you: just do it (aka suck it up buttercup). I guarantee you won’t regret it. Thanks for your support!
